Asbestos naturally produces silicate fibers which can cause serious illnesses such as lung cancer and malignant mesothelioma when inhaled through the mouth or nose. That is why measures are being taken to protect against it, and to prevent scattering of the fibers, by legislation such as the Industrial Safety and Health Law, the Air Pollution Control Law and the Waste Disposal and Public Cleansing Law.
